PLS 186/2014

Congress should analyze this Wednesday the gaming project in Brazil

The Senate Committee on Constitution and Justice (CCJ) is due to analyze this week the project that deals with the legalization of games of chance in the country. Through the project, part of the funds raised will be destined to states and municipalities that will have to apply money in health, social security and welfare, basic education and public safety.

PLS 186/14 was to be voted on at the CCJ meeting last Wednesday in the Senate, but was withdrawn from the agenda by rapporteur Benedito de Lira due to the filing of two amendments by Senator Wilder Morais (PP-GO).

Amendments 71 and 72 dealt respectively with the expansion of the concept of integrated leisure complexes with casinos and the exclusive allocation of the resources of gaming for public safety, as the governors requested.

With the addition of the new proposals, the project defines that part of the resources collected will be destined to states and municipalities that will have to apply the money in health, social security and welfare, basic education and public security.

During its course, the Ciro Nogueira project has already passed the Economic Development Committee of the Senate, where it was unanimously approved. It was sent to vote in plenary but, with approval of Senator Magno Malta's request, it wasthen sent to the CCJ for analysis, where it expects new approval to return to the agenda and be voted by the senators in plenary.
