According to the proposal, the casinos should be exploited by authorization granted by the federal government, while the bingos and jogo do bicho will be in charge of states and municipalities.
In defense of the bill, the author, Senator Ciro Nogueira (PP-PI), said in a Senate Radio show that gaming is already in daily life, but does not generate benefits to society because it is illegal.
The senator estimates that the activity could yield about R$ 20 billion (USD 6 billion) per year in taxes and proposes the application of resources in the area of public security. Journalist Jeziel Carvalho of Radio Senado spoke with the senator about it.
