BANK DIDN’T WANT TO PAY US$ 9.5 MILLION

Caixa does not reach agreement and Corinthians seeks new sponsor

Without consensus on the value and the time that would have the new contract, Brazilian owned-state bank Caixa and popular football club Corinthians ended a partnership that had been in place since 2012, with three renovations and poured over US$ 38 million in the club’s coffers.

Corinthians made against the International, on Wednesday by the Brazilian Cup, its last game with the sponsorship of Caixa Econômica Federal. Dissatisfied with the direction of the negotiations, Timão (as Corinthians is known) gave up the renewal and already looks for a new sponsor for its shirt.

Corinthians and Caixa went through a complicated negotiation process. Unlike the last contract, the bank did not want to pay US$ 9.5 million for a period of 12 months. The idea was to reduce the amount and also the agreement period, which would be only eight months (until December). In Timon's view, the terms were no more interesting.

The partnership began in 2012, bringing in over US$ 38 million in the period, with three renewals. Without the cash, Corinthians enters the final stretch of Paulista tournament with three fixed sponsors: Minds, who occupy the sleeves of the shirt; Alcatel, which is on the upper back; And Foxlux, who stamped his mark on the back.

On Sunday, against São Paulo, in the Paulista semifinal, the team will wear a uniform without the financial institution's logo.
