BgC and the development of suppliers in the country

"We will create a new strong gaming industry in Brazil"

Edgar Lenzi, attorney and president of Abragaming, opened the panel highlighting the importance of strengthening the industry. The specialist speakers were Fábio Rogério de Souza (Director, FIESP & Abragaming), Anna Shahbazyan (Regional Director, Betconstruct), Karen Sierra-Hughes (Director, Latin America and Caribbean Government Relations and Business Development, GLI), John de Wit (CEO, Playbrands) and Lorenzo Caci (Sales Director for the Americas, Sportradar).

Lorenzo Caci, Sales Director for the Americas at SportRadar, pointed out that Brazil can develop a serious regulation for the sector, but mainly in the economic development that the activity will provoke. "We are the leading providers of sports data around the world and we are very attentive to emerging markets in the pursuit of regulation. We know that there is already a fairly strong but unregulated market in Brazil, where needs must be met by all suppliers. All the companies present want to deliver high quality products and services to customers," he said.

Fábio Rogério de Souza, director of Fiesp and Abragaming, was asked to talk about incentives to be offered to investors with interests in the Brazilian market and especially in São Paulo. According to him, incentives to companies are not defined by the state industry federations, but these entities can provide the necessary support to investors in order to guide them in the search for more favorable conditions for the installation of business units in Brazil. "International investors will not have different benefits from those destined to Brazilian companies, but all interested parties, whether national or international, can enjoy adequate conditions to start their operations in Brazil. We have some specific poles in São Paulo and Recife, for example, for software development companies. The units of Senai, educational institutions linked to Fiesp, offer updating courses and training of skilled labor, which can also be a factor to be taken into account by companies in search of qualified professionals. All these companies can count on our students as soon as gaming is regulated," he said.

Anna Shahbazyan of Betonstruct brought her experience on the issue of regulation in emerging markets and the importance of clear rules on taxation. "It is important the arrival of international companies, to offer technology and also competition, in order to develop local companies and the market itself. No one will offer successful products in Europe or Asia in Brazil ... The goal is to bring a positive experience from the point of view of the experience itself, but by developing products and services with local characteristics," she said. According to her, it is important to keep in mind also that the player needs security and confidence in the industry. "They need to know that regulation is good for them and that a market with clear rules makes the activity evolve."

John de Wit, CEO of Playbrands, commented that there are not so many Brazilian companies operating in the market, but they are doing a lot of overseas success. "With the end of videobingos, Brazil exported companies abroad. There are some companies in the country using their knowledge and exporting knowledge, but others are overseas, such as Playbrands itself. We see great companies acting in the international market that were born in Brazil in the golden era of the bingos. Today we also have companies working in the online videobingo segment. All this is a demonstration of the Brazilian capacity and the inheritance that the bingos left. Today, all these Brazilian international companies want to return to the country and will come as soon as the sector is regulated. It will be a very interesting period to see what alliances will be generated by this movement back to the Brazilian market. We need to be aware, because the doors must be opened in a short time. We will create a new strong gaming industry in Brazil."

Karen Sierra, Latin America Director of GLI, a certification consulting firm, said that Gaming Laboratories International learned a lot during gaming regulation in other countries, especially in the field of gaming machines and sports betting." The whole process of certification goes before, by the stage of regulation of gaming. Each phase needs to be well defined so that the benefit is always directed to the player, who is ultimately the main customer of the entire industry." According to her, "all the controls that involve gaming are part of our activity and this is what needs to be taken into account by the sector when the regulation reaches the Brazilian market, as well as the internal control systems, both for the detection of suspicious attitudes, as for the issue of taxation, analyzes of equipment and the operation as a whole," she said.
