THE LAW DOES NOT CRIMINALIZE THE CONDUCT

Even without Justice's release, bingos are still open in Porto Alegre

Since the beginning of the year, four operations of the Civil Police have closed bingos and game houses in Porto Alegre, Brazil. However, all were reopened and returned to work one day after the closure. According to the Court of Justice, the law does not criminalize the conduct, but this does not mean that the operation of such an establishment is authorized.

Only this year, four operations of the Civil Police closed bingos in the Capital of Porto Alegre. However, they were reopened one day after being assessed.

According to the police, more than 100 gambling houses operate in the capital. When a bingo is assessed, the owners can not be arrested, as the law requires them to respond to detailed terms, such as fines, for example.

"Only the Federal Legislative could turn gambling into a crime, with penalty of imprisonment," explains delegate Eduardo Carrion, responsible for operations against bingos in Porto Alegre.
