Having won the backing of influential Russian media group, Rambler & Co,
the new online bookie is expected to soon take pole position in the coveted
emerging market.
"Russia represents an exciting but complex new market for bwin, and having a
partner of the calibre of Rambler&Co is hugely important to succeeding
there,” Jay Dossetter, head of media relations for bwin. "We firmly believe the
marriage of our brand and technology platform with their local knowledge and
expertise is a winning combination,” he added.
Digital Betting will operate the service under its Russian online gaming licence, but using GVC newly acquired brand will launch a bwin.ru website later this year via desktop and mobile. The deal represents one of the first licenced online sports betting services offered in Russia, and is certainly the most highprofile pact targeting Russian players to date.
"For quite a long period of time, Russian sports bettors have been waiting for innovative solutions in the betting industry,” added Dmitry Sergeev, CEO of Digital Betting. "We are extremely pleased to be offering the internationally admired bwin sports betting brand and product in Russia. We believe this partnership has great potential to capture significant market share in Russia when it launches later this year.”
