Finally, Brazilian House Committee rejects bingo for political parties

The special commission analyzing the rules of political reform has removed from Vicente Candido's (PT-SP) report the possibility for political parties to hold bingos and draws to raise funds for campaigns. The vote on the matter was completed. A bill will be created and must have the urgency approved for consideration in the Plenary.

The political reform committee voted on Wednesday, and by agreement, withdrew from the text the possibility of political parties to organize bingos and draws to raise funds for campaigns. The vote on the matter was completed. A bill will be created and must have the urgency approved for consideration by the Plenary.

The original text included political parties in a rule authorizing institutions to distribute prizes through draws, gift certificates, contests or similar operations, including bingos. The goal was to raise funds for campaigns.

The measure, which was criticized from the begining arguing that it could encourage money laundering, was eliminated from the text.

The special commission that analyzes the rules of political reform also decided to keep in the report of Vicente Candido (PT-SP) the prediction of a discount for political parties and candidate debtors of electoral fines. Through the text they can, within 90 days of the publication of the new rules, remove the 90% discount fines, since the cash payment is made.
