Jair Bolsonaro says he will not privatize Caixa Econômica Federal

During a live broadcast on his Facebook page, PSL presidential candidate Jair Bolsonaro once again defended the non-privatization of 'strategic' state-owned companies. The federal deputy cited the Bank of Brazil, Caixa Econômica Federal and Furnas as examples of companies that he does not plan to cede to private initiative.

For the presidential candidate, the companies considered "strategic" must remain under the control of the State. On another occasion, the deputy had already signaled some resistance to the privatization of Eletrobras and Petrobras.

"We have 150 state-owned companies. In the first year, we will send about 50 that were created by the PT. For another 50, we will have to have criteria, a model with responsibility, maybe a golden share [state-owned special action]," said Bolsonaro on his Facebook. "What is strategic can not be privatized," he repeated, referring to the public banks and the hydroelectric plant. The federal deputy also cited the Bank of Brazil, Caixa Econômica Federal and Furnas as examples of companies that he does not plan to give to the private initiative.

In an interview with TV Bandeirantes, the PSL candidate had already indicated some resistance to the privatization of some companies, such as Eletrobras. The day after the pronouncement, state electricity numbers fell more than 10% and recorded the worst performances on the Ibovespa (benchmark index of about 60 stocks that are traded on the São Paulo stock market).

At the time, Bolsonaro stated that "you can not leave [the company] in the hands of third parties", since, in this way, the guarantee of the service is lost. He said that only the distribution area of the company could have its sale negotiated, but not the area of generation.

Still analyzing a possible privatization process, the deputy defended the sale and also  the extinction of the state companies that give financial loss to the country, but excluded that possibility for the electric power sector and Petrobras, claiming that the state can not be placed in the hands of "any capital".

The profile of the presidential candidate, whose economic plan of government is based on the liberal booklet of his guru Paulo Guedes, has been one of the reasons for the performance of actions more susceptible to oscillations based on the political scenario, such as Eletrobras, Petrobras and some retail companies.

Despite the differences, Bolsonaro denied that he had problems with Guedes or with the leadership of his party. "I'm not beating Paulo Guedes at all. I agree with 90% of what he says and he agrees 90% on our side. This marriage is well under way," he joked.
