Mansueto de Almeida may become new BNDES head

According to the Expresso section of the Epoca magazine, the current Brazilian Secretary of Fiscal, Energy and Lottery Monitoring of the Ministry of Finance, Mansueto de Almeida, is part a list of three candidates endorsed by the Government to replace Paulo Rabello de Castro in the presidency of the National Development Bank Economic and Social (BNDES).

The Planalto Palace evaluates names to replace Paulo Rabello de Castro in the presidency of BNDES, who is expected to leave the bank in April to apply for the Presidency of the Republic.

Carlos Thadeu de Freitas Gomes, current director of the bank's Finance , International and Controllership areas, Carlos da Costa, director of Credit, Technology and Planning (also of the BNDES) and the Secretary of the Fiscal, Energy and Lottery Monitoring of the Ministry of Finance, Mansueto de Almeida.

Mansueto Facundo de Almeida Junior, born on September 30, 1967 in Fortaleza, Ceará, is an economist, graduated from the Federal University of Ceará and holds a Masters degree from the University of São Paulo (USP). He received his Ph.D. in Public Policy at MIT, Cambridge, Massachusetts. He has worked in Finance and Public Accounts, and is currently one of the country's leading specialists in finance.

As of Decree of the Presidency of the Republic No. 9.266 of January 16, 2018, the Secretariat of Economic Monitoring of the Ministry of Finance was abolished and replaced by two Secretariats. Given this restructuring in the Ministry of Finance, Mansueto Almeida, he becomes head of the Fiscal Monitoring Secretariat, where he continued to coordinate the projects of the Social Security reform and the privatization project of Lotex, the Brazilian state lottery.
