Local authorities said this week that a police inquiry into the contravention of the jogo do bicho will also investigate the clandestine lottery that is being offered in Rio de Janeiro. The game is similar to a sports lottery and uses games of football of the Brasieliro championship, the Copa do Brasil and and the Libertadores Cup, in addition to European games.
This Wednesday, the new lottery game, which has at least two modalities, was also being offered in the neighborhood of Piedade, in the North Zone. On Tuesday, the report had already found the games in jogo do bicho selling points booths of the downtown, Vila Isabel, Tijuca and Bonsucesso neighborhoods. Prizes vary with betting ratios.
Commenting on the matter, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) said it worries about manipulation of results, an illegal procedure that can be linked to any betting scheme, a reason why it hired an intelligence company to monitor all the matches of the Brazilian Championship and the Brazilian Cup. "The concern of the Brazilian Football Confederation is the fight against manipulation of results, an illegal procedure that can be linked to any betting scheme. Since last year, CBF has partnered with Sportradar to monitor the games of all series of the Brazilian Championship and the Brazilian Cup. With the guidance of the company, the world leader in prevention, detection and intelligence in combating the manipulation of results, CBF has created an internal department dedicated to the topic, appointing an Integrity Officer who works together. In addition, CBF has the possibility to activate the exclusive services of the Sportradar Anti-Fraud Intelligence Unit (FIU) at any time, based on specific needs for monitoring and detection."
