The TV host and also owner of SBT, Silvio Santos, wants to open a casino in Brazil once the law regulating the activity is approved by the national congress. Santos would have already reserved an area with a capacity of 5,000 people for the construction of the new gaming venue.
The place reserved for future Silvio Santos’
casino is inside the Sofitel Jequitimar Resort that fits with the standards for
investments and also meets one of the requirements of the bills in process in
Brasilia that forces future investors to build casinos witihn tourist resorts.
The Sofitel Jequitimar Resort was designed in 1998 by Silvio Santos, who invited
an American casino mogul to be his partner. After an investment of around USD
120 million, the project was inaugurated in 2007.
Currently, the complex has a shopping mall, sports courts, restaurants and a SPA as entertainment options, along with a space for live shows where festivals have already been held during past summers.
For Silvio Santos' casino to get a reality, it
is first necessary that casinos be legalized in Brazil. Currently, there are
two projects in progress at the congress; The PL 186/14 in the Senate and PL442
/ 91 in the Chamber. Both projects will again be debated after the
parliamentary recess and should be voted this year.
