BUMBET’S MICHAEL ADDISON

“People enjoy betting when like sports, and Brazil will be no different”

Last December, new online betting platform Bumbet started its operations in Brazil, offering a wide range of casino and sport bettings. While the company is looking for marketing deals in the country, Games Magazine Brasil spoke with Michael Addison, Bumbet’s Managing Director, who talked about their expectations on LatAm’s biggest market.

What is the main objective of Bumbet when entering the Brazilian market?
Brazil has a huge appetite for sport but is relatively new to online betting. Traditionally, countries where sport is popular people enjoy a bet on their team or favourite player: we hope and think Brazil will be no different.

What is the company's expectation for the legalization of gaming in the country? How does legalization affects business plans?
It makes sense for any government to legalise sports betting as it provides incremental income in taxes for the country. We can see how successful this has been in the UK where online betting is a well-respected business with many of the bigger operators listed on the London Stock Exchange.

Does the company have other international releases planned in other countries?
Not at this stage.

Is Bumbet thinking on an expansion in other countries in the region?
Inevitably, if this venture is successful we will look to replicate it elsewhere if the country has a synergy with the brand but at the moment we are concentrating on Brazil

About sports betting market, how does the company expect to stimulate betting in different modes in a country where football is the predominant sport?

Football will always be the lead product for sure – both Brazilian and international - but big events like the SuperBowl and Fomrula 1 will always have interest for people. There are also sports like volleyball which is huge regionally. So, there’s plenty of scope beyond soccer.
