The ABAV Nacional has declared support for the approval of a law that
legalizes the gambling activity in Brazil. Games Magazine Brasil Online spoke
with Edmar Bull, president of the entity, which expects a moment of new
opportunities for Brazilian tourism with regulation.
GMB - What is the industry expectation for the approval of the law that would
legalizes gaming in Brazil?
Edmar Bull - ABAV Nacional supports the approval of the activity in
national territory, given the volume of business and jobs that will be
generated in the country and for all of the segment tourism of Brazil.
GMB - According to ABAV information, there are 3,000 travel agencies in
Brazil. What benefits will the regulation bring to them?
Edmar Bull - Tourism agencies will gain more options to be offered on their
portfolio of products and services, prospecting for new clients and revenue
generation, including tax, thus supporting another important item on the
federal government's positive agenda.
GMB - In cities like Las Vegas and Macau, casinos are great tourist
attractions and entertainment promoters. Which are ABAV's plans to take
advantage of the potential tourism of casinos?
Edmar Bull - Tourism impacts 52 other sectors of the economy, has a 3.5%
representation in National GDP (USD 57 billion in 2015) and the opening of
casinos can boost these numbers and favor both domestic and international
tourism. There are a lot of demand from Brazilians not only for Las Vegas, but
also for our neighboring countries like Uruguay, Argentina, Chile and Paraguay,
where gaming is legalized.
