Mobile gambling set for rise

The mobile gambling industry worldwide from 2017 to 2021 will grow at a rate of 18.84% annually, says market analyst Research and Markets. A report compiled by the company suggests that its results are based primarily upon increased interest among the younger age groups.

“Mobile gambling attracts the younger population and that is something that traditional bricks-and-mortar casinos have failed to do,” the report states. “Mobile gambling increases the reach of gambling to sections of the population that do not visit casinos or betting bars.”

The report says that the average age of a casino visitor is 48 years while that of an online gambler is 34.5 years and a mobile gambler 32 years. “This further indicates a paradigm shift in the state of gambling from bricks-and-mortar to mobiles.”

The report adds that the latest trend gaining momentum in the market is vendors accepting cash alternative. “Rewards are given in the form of coupons or monetary benefits.”

It states that one of the major factors hindering the growth of the market is reports of gambling invoking addictive behaviour among low-income people. “Mobile gambling is not legalised in many countries because it invokes addictive behaviour among players. Gamblers become prone to impulse control disorder that can be either because they want to recover losses or are greedy to win more.
