Javier Chá, general director of Casinos de Uruguay, confirmed that the gaming venue will operate in the shopping center that Duty Free Americas (DFA) Uruguay is building in the city of Rio Branco and that will be inaugurated this year. "The project aims to consolidate the existing presence of the operations, expand the facilities of the Hippodrome and specify the casino in the border city."
Rio Branco is a city located on the border between the Department of Cerro Largo and Brazil. The icon that identifies it is the Barón de Mauá International Bridge, which connects Rio Branco with the Brazilian city of Jaguarão.
The DFA Uruguay shopping center will have a 10,000 square meter duty-free store, 11 commercial stores and a large food court, as well as a bus terminal. In a second stage, the construction of a hotel is contemplated.
According to the general manager of the company, Andrés Mendelsohn, the project is "very important for Rio Branco, because it is the closest point between Pelotas (Uruguay) and Porto Alegre (Brazil), two cities with a large population in the region." The total investment for the first stage is US$ 36 million.
