Nevada gaming wins surpass US$1 billion in May

Statewide revenue for Nevada reached US$1.04 billion for May 2018, representing a 5.3% increase year-over-year. According to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, 3.6 million people visited Las Vegas in May, a slight increase from the 3.5 million visitors in April.

This is not the first time this year that the US state has broken the US$1 bilion mark; in January, revenues of USS$1.01bn were reported. This was the first time since January 2017 that the threshold had been reached.

On the Las Vegas Strip, game win increased by 47.1%, with baccarat and slot win increasing 21.5% and 5.6%. Statewide, gaming win was up 8.5%, with baccarat and slot win up 19.8% and 3.6% respectively.

Casino winnings in Nevada jumped above the US$ 1billion mark in May, a rise of 9.4% from April and almost 5.3% more than winnings reported in May 2017.

The news was welcomed by operators as Nevada casinos earned US$954 million in April, the first dip blow the US$1 billion mark since January.

The two highest earning areas in Nevada were in Clark County, with US$904 million in winnings, followed by Washoe County with US$73 million.

The increase in May 2018 revenue could be linked to a higher volume of visitors. According to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, 3.6 million people visited Las Vegas in May, a slight increase from the 3.5 million visitors in April. The visitor volumes for May 2018 also show an increase of 0.8% over May 2017, indicating more people are visiting Las Vegas.
