CNC advocates legalization

National Confederation of Commerce, Goods, Services and Tourism supports casinos return to Brazil

In an interview with ‘Hoteis’ magazine, CNC president José Roberto Tadros said that 'the legalization of casino hotels would bring a significant increase not only for businesses linked to the sector, but also for revenue generation in the country's economy and in several states.' The 4 and 5 star hotels in Brazil employ between 0.6 and 1 employees (in relation to each room of the venue). In a hotel-casino, that average goes up to 3.2.

CNC is one of the entities that defend the legalization of casinos in Brazilian hotels as a way to leverage jobs, the national economy and attract more tourists. "The legalization of casino hotels would bring a significant increase not only for the businesses linked to the sector, but also for the generation of revenues in the economy of the country and in many states," says Tadros.

"It is estimated that the movement in the economy would be over R$ 15 billion (US$ 3.9bn) in revenue per year in the country, in addition to the generation of 400,000 direct and indirect jobs. This would boost Brazilian tourism, giving more profitability, competitiveness and attractiveness," adds the businessman from the Amazonas region.

According to estimates by the Tourism Council of the National Confederation of Commerce, Goods, Services and Tourism (CNC), the hotel sector would also benefit from the legalization of casinos. According to data, the Brazilian hotels of 4 and 5 stars employs between 0.6 and 1 an employee (in relation to each room of the enterprise). In a hotel-casino, that average goes up to 3.2. In addition to increasing job vacancies in the industry, the gaming sector in Brazil has the potential to create about 85 new functions/professions.

José Roberto Tadros is a businessman, a union leader and a writer that holds a bachelor's degree in law. He is also president of the Sebrae National Deliberative Council, member of the INSS, honorary consul of Greece in the Amazon, secretary general and member of the Geographical and Historical Institute of Amazonas.
