Colombia launches awareness campaign against manipulation of sporting events

The online betting companies operating in Colombia, the Asojuegos and Fecoljuegos unions, with the support of regulator Coljuegos, will launch the #YoLeApuesto awareness campaign to protect the integrity of sports competitions in the country. This is a series of messages that will begin to be published, as of yesterday (December 21), through the social networks and digital platforms of the organizations that are part of this initiative.

The intention is to make a call to all people linked to sports in a direct and indirect way with the purpose of raising awareness and preventing any unusual behavior that affects the results of sports competitions. Also seek to invite sports betting users to play through the 16 platforms authorized by Coljuegos, since this is a way not only to support legality, but also to commit to a secure monitoring and control of the possible risks of sports manipulations in competitions.

"The gaming industry and in particular the online vertical are an ally of sport and, as such, we are working in a coordinated manner with sports institutions in actions that allow training, raising awareness, generating information exchange and, in In general, strengthen good practices to ensure and guarantee sporting integrity. We are convinced that only together we will be able to shield the different sports in the country from any threat. The bookmakers are committed because they would be the most affected by any unwanted situation and that is why we have successfully joined this great awareness strategy,” stated the president of Fecoljuegos, Evert Montero Cárdenas.

For his part, the president of Asojuegos, Juan Carlos Restrepo, adds: “We seek to make visible the commitment we have with sporting integrity and with the preservation of an industry that contributes millionaire resources to the health of all Colombians. The way to remember and emphasize our dedication to working for transparency is through this type of campaign.”

The executive recalls that this initiative is in line with the transparency pacts that both Asojuegos and Fecoljuegos have promoted: the agreements signed last year in Gaming Colombia with Dimayor (Cooperation Agreement for the Prevention of Manipulation of Sports Competitions) and with the Ministry of Sports in a statement for integrity.

For this reason, #YoLeApuesto seeks to make a call to conscience, to the honesty of the actions of all the agents involved in the world of sports, because the manipulations of results damage the reputation and overshadow what for many is a source of pride, fun, passion and entertainment as are all sports.

It is important to remember that online gambling contributes more than 68,000 million pesos to the health of Colombians, therefore, promoting integrity and transparency in sport is a way to protect this important industry as well.

The idea is that all organizations linked to the gaming sector and, particularly, those in the online segment can, through their platforms and communications addresses, implement this campaign with #YoLeApuesto as a way to preserve the issue of sporting integrity that everyone is interested.

Precisely, the campaign is promoted from all online gaming platforms with the support of Coljuegos, complying with the commitments acquired in the agreed agreements.

The presidents of the unions emphasize the need to carry out prevention campaigns such as this one that seek to give a message that makes the general public aware of legal gambling and preserving sporting integrity. Thus, it is expected to generate an important reach and impact so that it is a campaign that is maintained over time.
