The specialist will share the panel (09/12 – 11:00 to 11:40 am) with Thomas Carvalhaes (Manager of Hero Gaming for Brazil and Latin America), Stuart Hunter (Events Director of Clarion Gaming) and José Colagrossi (Executive Director of Ibope Repucom). They will talk about:
GMB - Tell us a little about the work of bettingjobs.com and your role within the company?
Jennifer Innes - I’m Managing Director of Betting Jobs, the leading specialist recruiter for the betting and gaming industry. We’re active in every major market across the globe from our base in Scotland and have been active since 2003. I lead our team of specialized recruitment consultants, covering roles at every level across marketing, commercial, operations, technical and executive search.
What are the main topics you will address during your lecture at BgC 2020?
I’ll be putting across the recruitment perspective on the changes we’re seeing in the market, and the priorities & challenges facing our clients as they navigate those changes.
Since the legalization of sports betting in Brazil, has the demand from companies for local or Portuguese-speaking employees grown?
We have certainly seen an increase in demand for Portuguese-language staff from our clients over the course of this year, and have a number of ongoing engagements with this focus.
What are the resources that are being sought the most? High levels as a Country Manager or lower ones such as community managers or content generators?
We are engaged in searches at all levels, but the majority of clients who come to us with market-specific requirements are doing so as they are seeking a high-level candidate in a very competitive job market. We are seeing hiring at all levels, but finding the right candidate with the necessary experience in more senior positions is often the priority.
Has your company managed to place many local resources?
To this point, the majority of our activity towards the market has naturally come from Europe and remote-based operators, placing candidates outside of Brazil with an understanding of the region. As the system changes locally, we are actively looking into more local placements and our contacts thus far have been very encouraging.
Are there professionals who can work remotely from other countries for Brazil or is a stronger local operation more appropriate in this market?
Similar to my last point, the situation until now has lended itself to experienced professionals based out of country and their flexibility. As regulation takes hold and domestic operators grow, there are certainly strengths to be found in a more localized work force.
How are local resources trained in a country used to having the gaming sector banned and with a particular language?
Provided you are supplementing your structure with experienced leaders who know the industry and product, it is possible to grow the necessary level of market understanding throughout a local workforce – even if entirely new to the space.
What do you imagine in the future with the possible legalization of land-based casinos also in Brazil? Do you expect a resource need boom? Have you dimensioned the potential of the Brazilian market in the world context?
In line with many other markets we’ve watched legalize in recent years, we always aim to stay ahead of the curve and nurture our network to include the experts and talent who can make a real difference for our clients in that space. Brazil is a regular topic of conversation both in our office and with our clients, and we’re ready to service the current boom.
