Betway becomes new sponsor of Celta de Vigo in Spain’s football

Spanish football team Celta de Vigo and Betway have signed an important collaboration agreement that makes the club’s official bookmaker, while also acquiring a range of in-stadium advertising rights. Additionally, the operator and Celta will work alongside one another to create promotional content ahead of upcoming La Liga matches.

The agreement will last for two years, with the possibility of extension to a third one. It includes advertising on static and dynamic media in the stadium, promotional content associated with the matches and current events of the first team bringing the ‘celestial players’ closer to the fans.

The vice president of the club, Ricardo Barros highlighted that “at RC Celta we are very satisfied with this agreement, since it is very important for the sport that a brand of international prestige offers its support in a few moments especially complicated.”

“It is not simple obtain this type of support in the current circumstances, with so much social and economic uncertainty, and that is why at the club we value this agreement very positively, which allows us to continue growing as an entity and brand, and to continue advancing in our international expansion,” Barros added.

Betway also announced last week a two-year deal to become the official jersey sponsor of Real Betis Balompié. The partnership will see the the bookmaker logo appear on the famous green and white jersey from the start of the 2020/21 La Liga season as well as around the perimeter of their Benito Villamarin stadium.

The sponsorships come at a turbulent time for gambling sponsorships in Spain. Last month, the Spanish Ministry of Consumer Affairs confirmed that it is considering proposals to toughen up regulations on betting companies, including restrictions to sponsorship agreements and advertising exposure.

Under the new proposals to amend the Royal Decree, Spanish Minister of Consumer Affairs Alberto Garzón has altered the wording of the ruling to state that “sponsorship in sports T-shirts or equipment will not be admissible”, with gambling companies already banned from featuring on youth shirts.
