70% of Peruvians have a preference for online sports betting

The Peruvian sports betting market has had a search growth of 128% compared to 2019, with 90% of the bets correspond to the predilection for football. At the time of betting, nine out of 10 people know their options, according to a study. Likewise, the arrival of eSports in bookmakers seeks the diversification of the industry.

According to the latest visibility study carried out by Attach, a digital business consultancy, in September 2019 more than 2 million Peruvians sought to participate in sports betting.

This figure has increased in 2020 over 5 million and for this year it shows the interest of 6 million potential bettors for the market.

This positive trend has evolved in the context of a pandemic, allowing searches to be quadrupled in one year.

In addition, these results are reported within the framework of sporting events held in the previous year to date: Champions, Real Madrid vs Barcelona, beginning of France’s League 1 - 2021, Copa América, Eurocopa, Olympic Games, among other sporting events.

Top 3 on the market

Among the most sought after brands are Betsson, Te apuesto and Apuesta Total, leading the top 3 in the market, mainly on the day of Peru's matches against Paraguay, Venezuela and the most recent, with Brazil.

However, in measuring web traffic from Peru, Betsson, Bet365 and DoradoBet brands are the sports house brands with the highest traffic.

Potential Players

For Carlo Rodríguez, CEO & Regional VP of Digital Transformation at Attach, the COVID-19 pandemic has boosted the online sports betting industry as a form of entertainment.

"Given this, traffic has more than doubled without considering the peaks of important sporting events, especially football, since it concentrates the greatest reception by bettors," he said.

Finally, regarding the presence of eSports in the Peruvian market, for the executive it is vital to specify that the vertical has become relevant for bookmakers and players since the economic reactivation began in the country. He also considers that it is the future of the betting online and that, locally, will continue to grow.
