Brazilians want betting operators to provide more transparency

A new Latin American survey by Playtech, a global provider of online games and sports betting software, revealed that Brazilians want sports betting operators to provide more transparency, guidance and behavioral analysis. The study with the participation of more than two thousand people also shows that more than half of Brazilians believe that stricter regulations would represent more protection for players.

The survey revealed what steps Brazilians believe operators should take to promote more responsible gambling. Conducted in collaboration with the global research platform Toluna Insights, Playtech's online study surveyed more than 2,000 people in four Latin American countries - Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Colombia - with the main objective of identifying the main concerns and barriers for the region's potential players.

When asked what measures betting companies can take to promote responsible gambling, 61% of Brazilians interviewed asked for clear and transparent information regarding gambling issues to be included on sites.

About 56% said companies should show users clear information about financial gains and losses, as well as the time spent, while behavioral analysis of users' betting patterns to detect early problem players was popular among 54%. Only 13% of Brazilians surveyed believe that companies do not need to do anything because it is not their responsibility.

For more than half of respondents in Brazil (51%), online betting would be less harmful if stricter regulations and guidelines were adopted for online betting, as it would represent better protection for players.

About 28% of Brazilians believe the regulation would result in more people betting, but also more protection for players. In contrast, 80% of Brazilians believe that stricter betting rules would result in more people playing and therefore be more harmful.

The data from this survey sheds light on perceptions of the Latin American gambling industry, as well as highlights ways in which it can improve. It's no accident that each of the four countries surveyed had similar results, and as the industry in these regions matures, these insights should not be ignored,” said Francesco Rodano, Policy Director at Playtech.

Greater transparency around betting can help reduce behaviors identified as problematic among respondents. For this reason, Playtech is determined to help resolve these issues by providing a greater level of player engagement and more data and experience analysis tools to ensure safer gambling and support and protect all online customers, but especially those that show greater vulnerability or high standards of risk behavior,” adds Rodano.
