The government of Portugal, through the Council of Ministers, approved a decree-law establishing exceptional and temporary measures applicable to the exploitation of games of chance in Algarve, Espinho, Estoril, Figueira da Foz and Póvoa do Varzim gaming areas .
According to a statement issued by the Council, taking into account the impact of the restrictions imposed to control the COVID-19 pandemic, an additional period may be granted for the validity of the concession contracts in the aforementioned regions.
With these measures to extend casino concessions, the Portuguese government intends to "contribute to the restoration of the concessionaires' financial balance," as stated in the statement from the Council of Ministers.
