Luiz Fiorese: "Bookmakers are a reality, BiS will play important role in understanding the segment"

Former marketing director of São Paulo Futebol Clube, Luiz Fiorese, CEO of Tactic, intends to address in BiS the sports betting ecosystem and the turning point that the activity has given in recent years. According to him, bets have a great weight in world sport and the same happens in Brazil. “Three years ago, São Paulo had three proposals for sponsorship in the segment and the Board, at that time, did not think it was the right time because they were not sure about the topic. Look at their current shirt and tell me who the club's master sponsor is,” he exemplified.

GMB - Did the Brazilian market need to have a face-to-face event of this level?
Luiz Fiorese -
I have events in my DNA... In my distant memories I remember the great business fairs that took place, and my mother organized them, in the 80s at Anhembi. Seeing an event with the grandeur and ideals of BiS only shows the strength of a phenomenal segment that continues to grow.

Can the strength of BiS and its dissemination in the media help to understand that this industry should be legalized for the benefit of the country?
In my view this is a topic that should have been overcome by now! Sports betting houses, for example, are a reality in any media and are already within reach of any Brazilian. It is worth emphasizing that the compliance and governance that these large companies in the segment carry with them should already be strong enough for that! But as this issue has not yet been overcome, I am sure that BiS will play an important role in the good understanding of this very relevant segment.

What topics will you cover or would like to develop on your panel?
I'm going to talk about the importance of the segment, its "ecosystem" and show the weight it currently represents in world sport, reinforcing the recent turnaround in Brazil! I was the marketing director of São Paulo Futebol Clube and I like to exemplify that three years ago I had three sponsorship proposals in the segment and the Board, at that time, did not think it was the right time because they were not sure about the topic... Look at the shirt current ‘tricolor’ and tell me who is the club's master sponsor.

How do you analyze Brazil's growth this year specifically in the gaming market segment where you work and specialize? What are your expectations for 2022?
I see that 2019 to 2021 were years of consolidation and market positioning! I see 2022: conversion as a mantra for companies in the segment.

At what point do you see the local gaming market in general and its evolution in 2021 from a political and regulatory perspective?
I'm not the greatest expert on the subject. But I understand and feel that we are one step away from regulation! I think it is a natural movement, because we are talking about a market/product that is already consolidated.

Were the results of your company's work this year as expected? Do you have plans in Brazil to grow and contribute more to the local market?
If I mentioned earlier that in my vision for 2022 the mantra will be conversion... I am sure that we have tested, experimented and learned a lot in the last two years and today we have a very interesting mapping for this market!

In the most recent discussions about gaming activity in Brazil, the main players believe that the country is closer than ever to regulation. Do you share the same opinion? Do you believe it is possible to approve all gaming verticals in Brazil during this next year?
I think that the political moment we are going through may leave the topic a little in the background! But as I said, I think it is a natural movement, because we are talking about a market/product that is already consolidated.

All about the Brazilian iGaming Summit (BiS)

Due to the health crisis, several events, trade shows and congresses had to be postponed or even canceled throughout 2020 and 2021; however, with the advance of immunization across the country, things are slowly returning to normality. Thus, the Brazilian iGaming Summit (BiS) will take place at Espaço Boulevard JK, in São Paulo, on December 1st and 2nd with the strategic partnership of Games Magazine Brasil, and will be attended by investors and entrepreneurs from diferente sectors such as sports betting, communication, affiliates, lotteries and regulators. For the first time, it will take place in a hybrid model, with real-time broadcasts and big screens spread throughout the conference space.

To ensure the safety of guests, event organizers will respect all recommended health safety protocols. With this, BiS will be the return point of in-person events for the gaming sector in Brazil and a great opportunity to connect entrepreneurs of the gaming market to the country's political personalities and actors involved in the regulation process. They will discuss and analyze what will be the next steps to pass legislation for the sector, and what are the trends for the development of this market in Brazil.
