Minister of Justice believes in reaching an agreement to legalize casinos in Brazil

Brazilian Minister of Justice Anderson Torres participated in an event organized by female business leaders LIDE Mulher in Brasília, where District Deputy Julia Lucy (Novo/DF) asked about his position in relation to the legalization of casinos in Brazil. 'There are pros and cons in this matter, and I believe it is in the right environment, being discussed by the National Congress. I think it is possible to reach a compromise that is good for Brazil,' commented Torres.

During the speech, the minister was applauded by an audience of around 100 people. Torres praised the Bolsonaro government as a "technical and good" administration. He pointed out the reduction of bureaucracy and the pension reform as good deeds of the current administration. Torres is appointed as a likely candidate for deputy by the Federal District.

In addition to businesswomen, the LIDE event was attended by authorities and parliamentarians. District Deputy Julia Lucy (Novo/DF) asked the minister about his position in relation to the legalization of casinos in Brazil. He said he considered the matter "delicate and complex."

On the one hand, he pointed out that there is a risk that the activity would foment organized crime and be a means of money laundering. On the other hand, he mentioned the issue of loss of resources, jobs and investing in the country without the legalization of the activity.

"There are pros and cons in this matter, and I believe it is in the right environment, being discussed by the National Congress. I think it is possible to reach a middle ground that is good for Brazil," concluded the minister.

In the balance of actions he presented at the event, Torres highlighted the task force to combat deforestation in the Amazon. According to the Climate Observatory, the devastation was a record last month. The minister reaffirmed the need to use the National Force and all branches of public security to curb environmental crimes in the region.

"Yes, we are going to take strong, concentrated and integrated action with the Ministry of the Environment to protect the forest. We will use our work in the area of intelligence to track down criminals," he reinforced.
