Towards the Brazilian iGaming Summit

Fábio Tiberia: “Discussing crypto in BiS will give birth to a new moment in the gaming sector"

Fabio Tibéria, who runs an international gaming consulting company that bears his name, will participate as a panelist at the Brazilian iGaming Summit (BiS) with all his experience acquired over years in dealing with information and requirements for implementing companies in emerging markets. He says that the time is ripe for an event like BiS and that he intends to discuss payment methods, cryptocurrencies, legality and compliance on his panel.

GMB - Does the Brazilian market need to have a face-to-face event of this level?
Fabio Tiberia
- I thank the organizers in advance for organizing a face-to-face meeting to discuss the regulation of the gaming market. Due to the socioeconomic size that Brazil represents in this sector, I think an event of this level is appropriate and the moment when it takes place is the most appropriate possible.

Can the strength of BiS and its dissemination in the media help to understand that this industry should be legalized for the benefit of the country?
The power of the media is very important to show the benefit that the country will receive. BiS organizers, to paraphrase, are the "avengers" of the fight for the regulation of gambling in Brazil since the beginning of 2017-2018, when the law that approved sports betting was made official by the Federal Government. BiS is an even greater "voice" to remark what has been discussed and repeated over and over in recent years, as the old Latin phrase ‘repetita iuvant’ says.

What topics will you cover or would like to develop on your panel?
I will talk about payment methods in Brazil, legality and compliance. A matter of crucial relevance especially in the midst of a digital revolution where crypto is the main actor of a historic change in all socio-economic and political sectors. Crypto as a revolutionary payment system and a replacement for traditional currencies, blockchain as the foundation of incorruptible technology. In addition to the "pivot" of technology, it would be quite opportune to talk only about crypto and blockchain, not forgetting the NFT (non fungible token), smart contract and the presentation of a new era of blockchain-connected gaming entertainment like Axie infinity, my defi pet, gods unchained, Illuvium, Faraland, Mist etc., with remuneration in tokens.

In 10 years, for sure, we will no longer have a Fiat. They are always inflating more. The "Big Mac" index speaks volumes about our buying potential and comparison across countries over the past 35 years when you bought a 'Big Mac' hamburger for US$1.60 and now you buy it for almost US$5.30.

Legality and compliance are other related topics in how to manage data that is increasingly subject to theft or hacking. Compliance is not a requirement of compliance with the law and codes of ethics, but especially within the scope of GPDR expertise in protecting user data. On this last subject the blockchain is considered a unique and incorruptible "ledger" tool, so highly correlated with a payment company's compliance.

How do you analyze Brazil's growth this year specifically in the gaming market segment where you work and specialize? What are your expectations for 2022?
Talking about growth is always good because in this case it is the numbers that speak. They don't lie!!! Growth is being exponential across all sectors. eSports and gaming with blockchain technology are exploding. I personally have had many entrepreneurs looking to break into this industry as B2C gaming operators.

Finally, Brazil is growing and will continue to grow. The speed is amazing. 5G, blockchain and coronavirus have changed the landscape and the concept of a new form of entertainment that is more immediate, faster and virtual.

At what point do you see the local gaming market and its evolution in 2021 from a political and regulatory perspective?
The political point of view is a substantial variable and I think we have to wait for next year's election. The federal government has already expressed itself on the regulatory issue. I believe that a decentralized regulation is much more viable. Each state with autonomously managed technical and taxation peculiarities.

Were the results of your company's work as expected this year? Do you have plans in Brazil to grow and contribute more to the local market?
I say that a good company is based on credibility, work and capacity! The results are a consequence! As the name of my company is my name, there would be no way for me to hide in case of failure. I help local companies acquire the technical tools and 'know how' to carry out a stable and long-term project. It's no use just having money. It's like buying a luxury car and not knowing how to drive. In the case of a foreign company, I provide the necessary information for them to enter Brazil correctly.

In the most recent discussions about gaming activity in Brazil, the main players believe the country is closer than ever to regulation. Do you share the same opinion? Do you believe it is possible to approve all verticals in Brazil during the next year?
I believe a necessary step would be "all or nothing". Regulating only sports betting is like pretending to want to fly a jet with only one engine! result... the plane crashes or in the best case flies crooked!! The real and substantial revenue comes from lottery and casino games and along with other modalities with different types of tax.

Fixed-odds bets with hedge at 102%, with very favorable side markets, mainly in unregulated markets, determines a GGR <10%. This percentage is not significant in relation to the investment made and the government's expected revenue collection. I'm not sure about gaming verticals, but I'm hoping they'll be approved next year. I, as always, will bet and cheer for Brazil!

All about the Brazilian iGaming Summit (BiS)

Due to the health crisis, several events, trade shows and congresses had to be postponed or even canceled throughout 2020 and 2021; however, with the advance of immunization across the country, things are slowly returning to normality. Thus, the Brazilian iGaming Summit (BiS) will take place at Espaço Boulevard JK, in São Paulo, on December 1st and 2nd with the strategic partnership of Games Magazine Brasil, and will be attended by investors and entrepreneurs from diferente sectors such as sports betting, communication, affiliates, lotteries and regulators. For the first time, it will take place in a hybrid model, with real-time broadcasts and big screens spread throughout the conference space.

To ensure the safety of guests, event organizers will respect all recommended health safety protocols. With this, BiS will be the return point of in-person events for the gaming sector in Brazil and a great opportunity to connect entrepreneurs of the gaming market to the country's political personalities and actors involved in the regulation process. They will discuss and analyze what will be the next steps to pass legislation for the sector, and what are the trends for the development of this market in Brazil.
