Specialists see necessity to serve young people and that legislation analyze each vertical

Sérgio Garcia Alves, president of the OAB/DF Gaming Law Commission, received Peter Nolte, founder of Salsa Technology, and Thomas Carvalhaes, Regional Director - Brazil and Latam at Hero Gaming, to talk about other gaming verticals and the Brazilian scenario. Casino and bingo games were cited by speakers as verticals that are already consolidated in the world and that should be incorporated, in the future, in the regulations. In addition, they defended the necessity to cater to new players, who need modern products.

Peter Nolte said that the biggest challenge for developers is to engage new players. "Young people are arriving and we have to understand their expectations, in addition to guaranteeing the issue of location, which is fundamental for the success of any operation."

Thomas Carvalhaes sees that the future of the gaming market is not just about sports betting and casino. “We have a gamification of the casino player experience developed in Sweden, which has allowed us to reach new options for player engagement. In Brazil, everyone has their particularities about what they like to play or not. Future modalities will still grow a lot, such as eSports and fantasy games and, who knows, the jogo do bicho, when it is legalized in Brazil.”

To further develop the new aspects, Brazil must have the legalization of the gaming sector, in the assessment of Peter Nolte. “Localization will take a little longer for the world's leading developers to focus on this action. It will be a natural tendency when Brazil legalizes the other games,” he analyzed.

For Thomas, the Brazilian needs to take control of the operation of gaming in the country. “We need to be efficient and point out the needs of the gaming market, regardless of the legalization issue. We have to work on the localization and prepare for legalization and be demanding in the quality of the games to be produced for Brazil,” he said.

Sérgio Garcia commented that the current signaling of the Working Group (WG) on the Regulatory Framework for Gaming is very complete, especially if compared to Bill 442/91, which gave rise to the work now in progress in the Chamber of Deputies.

The old project simply revoked the bans and today the regulatory framework determines many things to be matured given the advancement of technology, the emergence of different modalities and themes related to responsible gaming. He made these considerations and cited that the review points to the legalization of bingos, casinos, sports betting, skill games, eSports, turf and jogo do bicho.

André Gelfi, managing partner of Betsson Brasil, commented that turf is something very specific and that it has undergone major changes since the activity was born. “Today, the world is different and horse racing needs to be encouraged and betting on horse racing always has an appeal, but it is not possible to sustain itself. The law must help this vertical to reinvent itself.”

For Peter, it would be very important for everything to be legalized and that each vertical, due to its own characteristics, needs to be analyzed by the WG of the Chamber of Deputies individually, so that such specific themes are not mixed. “Many new developments are coming and it is necessary that each one of them receive the attention of the deputies,” he evaluated.
