GMB - Making a brief presentation of Pagsmile, what are your main services and differentials compared to other payment method companies?
Marlon Tseng - We offer a payment method program for national and international customers aiming at a differentiated experience for the end user of the retailers that integrate our payment system. All of this making available the greatest number of options possible, in a fast, transparent and secure way.
The company is coming to the sports betting sector, but it has also served online gaming and casino operators. Is there any similarity in profile between the supporters of these two types of betting?
We are just starting out in sports betting, but we have been in the industry for over six years with mobile and computer games. In both aspects, the consumer has a very similar profile, they want to play games, they are inclined to online products and services. We are confident that we can serve this entire industry by offering the best of every form of payment.
On the issue of regulation of sports betting in Brazil, do you have any position? What immediate benefits could it bring to the Brazilian state and the population?
If you go to see, 60% of the sponsors, of the money that goes into Serie A and B clubs in Brazilian football, comes from sports betting. It is present everywhere and members of the government know this need. I think it's a matter of them starting to look at this as a priority. With a regulation, you pass greater security to the entire ecosystem and everyone benefits from job creation, security, taxes. Brazil has the third largest eSports (electronic sports) betting public in the world, behind the United States and China, so we can imagine the enormous potential of this market when everything is right.
Aiming especially at the performance of Pagsmile, what opportunities would be opened with the end of the process of regulation of sports betting in Brazil?
We imagine that it will be easier to integrate with national companies. Today, precisely because the sector is not regulated, operators can act here in Brazil through an opening in the legislation in which if the company has its head office abroad, with foreign licenses, it is not within the scope of Brazilian law. Once you have a regulation, these companies do not need to be out there. You open up a huge possibility for them to make a real investment in Brazil; in addition to national bookmakers also being able to open their businesses following a standardization, in a safe environment.
The lack of regulation makes many good companies arrive, but at the same time also bad companies; when you have a clear rule about it, you can make a filter, leaving in the market those who are really good and want to invest in the long term. Pagsmile welcomes this because it increases the opportunities for businesses to operate and create greater demand for payment methods. We entered into this issue of meeting these needs, we are prepared, we have been operating in the gaming industry for a long time and it will not be any difficulty to offer our services.
Pagsmile invested in having a stand during the exhibition that took place at the BIS – Brazilian iGaming Summit. What evaluation do you make of the event, not only in terms of new businesses, but also in terms of knowledge about the industry and its potential?
It is the first face-to-face event set up for this industry that we participated in and it was excellent to see politicians, businessmen, investors in one place where they managed to connect for the purpose of reaching a consensus on how we can operate, the way the industry should be regulated and other things that should be done. I hope we have more events like this in the future because it's something that comes to foster and strengthen this ecosystem. Only by joining forces will we be able to build something and add value. For Pagsmile to be at the event was very rewarding, we made important connections and got to know the industry much better.
