A Swiss court has blocked requests from foreign online gambling operators to access the country's market, which gambling authorities have limited since 2019 to those apprvoed by local authorities. According to Reuters, this means Swiss gamblers can only bet online at Swiss casinos and lotteries that pay taxes in the country and protect people from gambling addictions.

Since 2019, Switzerland has been blocking foreign gambling sites, as voted by 73% of voters in a referendum held in June 2018, according to Swiss Info portal, which adds that Swiss gamblers can only bet online at local casinos and lotteries that pay taxes in te country and take measures to protect people from gambling addiction.

Swiss Administrative Court ruled against four gaming companies

In four verdicts released this Tuesday (14), the Federal Administrative Court ruled against Interwetten International Ltd, Videoslots Ltd, bet-at-home Entertainment Ltd and Lopoca Gaming Ltd in lawsuits against the Swiss Federal Gaming Board seeking an appeal to circumvent the ban for foreign companies in the country.

According to the country's Administrative Court, the restriction of access to games involves the public interest: "It goes without saying that the restriction of access to online gaming services that are not licensed in Switzerland is in the public interest and can be applied with strict measures," the court said in its ruling rejecting the foreign gaming houses' appeal, reproduced by Reuters.
