The Puerto Rico Gaming Commission has already confirmed that the first of the three casinos expected for next year will be located in the Condado Plaza Hilton, in the tourist area of Condado. According to the information provided by the company, the room will occupy 15,000 square feet, will have over 300 slot machines and dozens of game tables, with an investment of USD 33 million and generating around 200 direct jobs.
The other two hotels that requested the endorsement of the commission to operate a casino in their facilities are the Embassy Suites by Hilton-Dorado del Mar Beach Resort, in Dorado, and the Tribute Fortfolio Ponce Grand Casino, in Ponce.
The data offered by the agency informs that both casinos propose to occupy together 14,300 square feet, create about 120 jobs, and will have between them 445 slot machines and thirteen gaming tables.
"We will evaluate these requests with rigor and the highest sense of responsibility towards investors, players and the people who will benefit from the reactivation of tourist areas," said the executive director of the Gaming Commission, Orlando Rivera, in written statements.
Rivera explained that the opening of these gaming centers will have a multiplier effect on the economy when the online sports betting system comes into force, which will also be regulated by the Commission, and will apply to hotels, inns and casinos.
The official commented that the government of Puerto Rico receives more than 50% of the profits generated by the slot machines and that this money is distributed between the General Fund, the Puerto Rico Tourism Company and the University of Puerto Rico.
Rivera projected that the expansion of the activities that can be carried out in casinos, such as internet gambling regulated by the Commission at the time, will pave the way for the promotion of Puerto Rico internationally as an attractive destination for millions of people who bet on sporting events and eSports.
