Deputies of Brazil's state of Piauí approve 5% inspection fee to online betting market

The Legislative Assembly of Piauí (Alepi) approved this Wednesday (22) a Bill, authored by the Executive, that creates an inspection fee on the betting market with fixed quotas, including online betting sites, 'operating within the State of Piauí.' In the message, Governor Wellington Dias (PT) argues that this is a trade that is beyond the State's control, as most companies are based abroad. The text leaves doubts on how the gateway will be installed on betting sites and how the fee will be charged.

In the proposal, the head of the Executive justifies that it is necessary to inspect this market and, for this, there is a need to create this rate, which will be 5% to be charged at the time of loading money by the user. The text also states that the amount will be automatically transferred to the Department of Finance.

The text leaves doubts on how the gateway will be installed on betting sites and how the fee will be charged.

Deputy Ziza Carvalho (PT) congratulated the government for the project and said that "it is a matter that should have been disciplined in Piauí and that it is important to have revenue on games of chance.”

The Bill was unanimously approved by the Constitution and Justice and Inspection and Control, Finance and Taxation Committees. Soon after, it was voted on in Plenary, also being approved by the present parliamentarians. Now it goes to the governor's sanction.
