Ciro Nogueira, Chief of Staff

"I speak as a senator and not as minister: I've always supported gaming legalization in Brazil"

Ciro Nogueira, Chief of Staff of the Presidency of Jair Bolsonaro, declared himself in favor of the gaming sector in Brazil. “I speak as a senator and not as a minister. I have always been an advocate of legalization. Brazil is one of the places where most bets are made in the world. And we only have the harms of the activity: corruption, police protection, tax evasion and the issue of addiction. But we don't have the benefits, which is to generate jobs and income, investment,” he stated.

The Chief Minister of the Civil House, Ciro Nogueira (PP-PI), author of a bill in the Senate that legalizes gambling in Brazil, participated in ‘Live do Valor’, where he spoke about the current situation in the country, the elections in 2022, the increase in ‘Auxílio Brasil’ aid program (which replaced Bolsa Família), inflation and the legalization of the gaming sector.

Nogueira stated that he will not run for elective office next year and added that he will lead the government, while Bolsonaro leaves for the electoral campaign, but that he will accumulate the function with a vacancy in the coordination.

“It will be a very polarized campaign. The country is very divided, but common sense people will re-elect the president. We will demonstrate what has been done and what we can do in the next four years,” he said.

On the legalization of gaming, Nogueira said he supports the activity. “I will speak as a senator, not as a minister. I have always been an advocate of legalizing gaming in Brazil. We are today one of the places where most bets are placed is in the world. And we only have the harms of the sector: corruption, police protection, tax evasion and the issue of addiction.”

“But we don't have the benefits of generating jobs and income, investment, taking care of addicted people with resources from gaming itself. Now we have to await the decision of the National Congress,” he concluded.
