To ensure more investments in social sectors

Evangelical deputy leader of Santa Catarina government proposes creation of state lottery

State deputy Felipe Souza (Patriota), government leader in the Legislative Assembly and member of an evangelical church, proposed that the governor of Santa Catarina, Wilson Lima (PSC), implement state lotteries, according to him, to ensure more investments in public safety, housing education, health and other sectors. A year ago, the Federal Supreme Court (STF) ruled that the Union does not have the exclusivity to explore lotteries in Brazil.

For the parliamentarian, the measure is important because it will help the state to reinforce the collection and recover the damages caused by the economic crisis. “The proceeds will help the state in actions and programs for the benefit of the population,” he justified.

According to application No. 6058/2021, this collection will be made with the exploration of the lottery game. Since the STF's decision on this end, the states have been moving to create their own lottery outlets.

Also according to the text of the indicative, the most recent case is in Paraná, in which the state government sent, in October this year, the creation project to the State Legislative Power.

“The decision of the STF was very important to guarantee to all States of the Federation the possibility of exploring one more socially relevant financial source related to the promotion of social rights. Despite this social contribution being little known, it has its matrix in the Federal Constitution, and its motto is to provide better quality of life for citizens,” added Felipe.
