Senate’s committee discusses today project that allows resorts with casinos in Brazil

Bill 4.495/2020, which allows the implementation of resorts with casinos in Brazil will be debated at a public hearing of the Committee on Economic Affairs (CAE) of the Senate today (Thursday 9), at 2 pm. The request was presented by Senator Veneziano Vital do Rêgo (MDB-PB), rapporteur of the matter. Interested parties can follow and ask questions live on the e‑Citizenship Portal.

The proposal deals with the implantation and development of integrated resorts in Brazil, as an initiative to promote and streamline the National Tourism Policy. The author of the project is senator Irajá (PP-TO), who believes that the measure, followed by a concession process for exploration, would be able to attract large investors to the Brazilian tourism market.

Veneziano Vital do Rêgo observes, however, that the theme is far from being consensual. Therefore, he called for the debate, "so that all voices can be heard and considered in the analysis."

Gustavo José de Guimarães e Souza, secretary of Evaluation, Planning, Energy and Lottery at the Ministry of Economy; Vinícius Lummertz, Secretary of Tourism of São Paulo and former Minister of Tourism; and representatives of the Brazilian Association of the Hotel Industry (ABIH), the Federal Public Ministry and the OAB-DF Gaming Law Commission were invited to the meeting.

How to participate

The meeting will be interactive, as citizens can submit questions and comments by calling the Senate Ombudsman (0800 061 2211) or via the Portal e‑Cidadania, which can be read and answered by senators and debaters live. The Senate offers a declaration of participation, which can be used as a complementary activity time in a university course, for example.
