Josh Tromans-Jones, firm’s CTO

“When Brazil opens, Salsa Technology will be one of the first to get the necessary certifications”

In an exclusive interview with GMB, Josh Tromans-Jones, recently appointed Chief Technology Officer at Salsa Technology, believes that Brazil is on the right track for regulation and that as soon as this happens, the company “will be one of the first to obtain the necessary certifications.” For him, accepting the position of CTO at the game developer “was an easy decision. The chance of joining a well-known and fast-growing firm with a very strong core and a great product is huge.”

Games Magazine Brasil - How do you analyze Salsa Technology's global positioning in the market?
Josh Tromans-Jones - Salsa Technology is extremely well positioned in the Latin American market and the company's success is a result of a deep understanding of the region’s complex characteristics. Salsa Technology is the market leader for games, its Game Aggregation Platform and the omni-channel offering. Each has been shaped by Salsa’s commitment to localisation of content and an unrivalled understanding of player demands. We now also have an increasing presence in Europe that I am sure will grow significantly in the near future.

What led you to accept the invitation to direct Salsa's technology area?
It was an easy decision to accept the invitation to become Salsa Technology’s Chief Technology Officer. The chance to join a well-known, fast rising company with a very strong core and a great product is huge. Speaking regularly about the company’s vision and ambitions with CEO Peter Nolte really excited me and I believe we can deliver on the mission.

Was the fact that Salsa has Brazilian DNA an additional factor to face the challenge of assuming the position of Chief Technology Officer of the company?
Yes, Brazilian DNA pulses through the company and will help us navigate through the regulation process. Having a Latin American culture influence how we operate is both fun and interesting.

With more than ten years of experience in the games area, what attractions do you see at Salsa Technology and what goals do you intend to achieve in the company?
In my role as CTO I will be concentrating on ensuring Salsa Technology has its product certified for Brazil. Curating and strengthening our portfolio is another core area for our growth strategy. Market expansion is the other driver. We have a strong presence in Latin America and Western Europe, and we are expanding into Eastern European and Asian regions. Regarding new licenses, we are close to finalising our MGA license and expect confirmation soon.

How do you evaluate the current technological stage of Salsa?
Salsa’s tech foundation forms a solid core and features a diverse range of high-performing products. Plenty of work is being undertaken to deliver the company to even greater heights. An exciting project will be introducing our cutting-edge AGS Platform 3.0 which will give us the momentum to broaden our global reach and ensure our clients have the very best tech in the market.

2020 was a very difficult year, with the interruption of football championships and different sports that had a major impact on the iGaming industry. How was that impact for Salsa?
The pandemic was tough for everyone, lockdowns and constant talk of COVID-19 had a toll on mental health across the world. From a business standpoint, 2020 highlighted the importance of providing a truly omni-channel solution.

We are grateful to have multiple verticals that were able to sustain the business through these tough times and help position it for significant growth this year. As the online migration continues, Salsa has placed more resources on providing robust tech and gaining a deep understanding of customer behaviour to protect players. Social responsibility has long been a vital strand of Salsa’s offering as we keep players’ interests at heart.

Will you focus your performance with a focus on the European market, where you are based, or try to understand more deeply the taste of the Latin player?
They are not mutually exclusive for us. Europe is a great opportunity for us, but we will not forget our Latin roots.

Do you believe that Brazil is on the right path for the regulation of gambling in the country?
It has been a topic that has been on the table for a few years now, but I am more excited than ever about this area. I believe Brazil is definitely on the right path and when the country is open, we’ll be one of the first to obtain the necessary certifications. Brazil’s regulation will allow Salsa Technology to deliver the best gaming platform and technology solution for our clients wishing to enter into the hugely exciting market.
