Mega-Sena is among the first lottery modalities of predictions in the country, in which the bettor freely chooses the numbers among the dozens available and thus the draw defines the winning bets. The modality was preceded by Sena, which started on 03/07/1988 and was transformed into Mega-Sena in 1996.
Mega-Sena brought two fundamental differences in relation to Sena. The first in the number of numbers, which went from 50 to 60. However, the main change was to reserve a percentage of the total destined to the prize of each contest for the draws with zero end, and later also for the ones that ends in 5. The novelty made even more attractive prizes.
Mega da Virada:
Created in 2009, Mega da Virada was the first special contest of the CAIXA Lotteries. The end-of-year contest was inspired by the culture of multi-million dollar prizes from traditional lotteries in the world, such as Spain's grand ‘El Gordo de Navidad’ prize. In Brazil, in 12 years the contest has already paid R$ 2.9 billion (US%516m) in the main band for 109 winners from 20 different states.

The CAIXA Lotteries have the main purpose of social transfers, in which almost 50% of what is collected from sales is destined to the Federal Government for investments in different areas, such as education, health, culture, sports, safety and security. In 2020, the amount transferred for investment in these areas reached R$ 8.05 billion (US$1.43b), of which approximately R$ 2.6 billion (US$ 462m) were due to the results of the Mega-Sena collection.
Mega-Sena gives R$ 32 million this Saturday:
Contest 2,352 of Mega-Sena can pay R$ 32 million in this Saturday's draw (13)., which will take place from 8:00 pm (Brasília time), at Espaço Loterias CAIXA, located at the Tietê Bus Terminal, in São Paulo (SP).
If only one bettor takes the main prize from Mega-Sena and invests the entire amount in CAIXA's Savings Account, he/she will receive approximately R$ 37 thousand in income in the first month. If the winner prefers to invest in real estate, the amount would be enough to buy 40 houses or apartments worth R$ 800 thousand each.
In compliance with the guidelines for the prevention of Coronavirus, public access to Espaço Loterias CAIXA was reduced. The draws are broadcast live daily on television and on the social networks of Lotteries CAIXA (profile @LoteriasCAIXAOficial on Facebook and CAIXA channel on YouTube).
