Alexandre Sampaio, president of FBHA

"The return of the gambling sector is necessary to leverage Brazilian tourism"

Last Tuesday (16), Alexandre Sampaio, president of the Brazilian Federation of Hosting and Food (FBHA), was part of a videoconference with João Carlos Bacelar, new president of the Chamber of Deputies Tourism Commission. Sampaio defends the need to work for the Regulatory Framework for Gaming (Bill nº 442/91) as a way to promote tourism, especially with the hotel sector being able to integrate casinos without their resorts.

The meeting aimed to boost tourism in the states based on an evaluation with companies and institutions in the sector, with the construction of a single national agenda. In addition, it sought to present other strategies to mitigate the impacts arising from the crisis caused by the COVID-19.

“We want to build, in a participatory way with stakeholders, 27 guidance documents to the local executive branch, on the priorities for the development of sustainable tourism and short-term actions to face the challenges, considering a strategic orientation for medium and long term. And nothing more consonant than presenting to the Casa de Leis, especially the commission that legislates in favor of Brazilian tourism,” says the representative of the FBHA.

Sampaio defends the need to work for the Regulatory Framework for Gaming (Bill nº 442/91) as a way to promote tourism, especially with the hotel sector being able to integrate casinos without their resorts. "This path of return of the gaming sector is necessary to leverage Brazilian tourism, contributing to the generation of jobs and income," he highlighted.

Bacelar believes that the strategic plan is positive for the sector and meets the two priorities in the Tourism Commission. In general, analyzing trends, identifying opportunities, and seeing tourist spots for the resumption of the segment in the states are the main points defended in the integrated line of action.

“Our intention is to build the bases for the resumption of tourism in the country, transforming it into a pillar of support from a theoretical and legislative point of view, more modern, more realistic, together with the academic environment, organizations, civil society, states, municipalities and entities. And this planning by Cetur has a great relationship with the role of the commission. It is important that we remain partners to capitalize on all the great ideas for Brazilian tourism,” emphasized the deputy.

Also, according to him, the commission will listen to members of the sector to define strategies and invited Cetur to make a presentation to the entire collegiate. He said that, as an alternative to major events, such as carnival, religious, ecological tourism and the regulation of gambling in the country have emerged, a flag defended by the parliamentarian.

Bacelar's idea is to propose a request for hearings with members of Caixa Econômica Federal, in partnership with the Ministries of Economy and Tourism, discussing the General Tourism Fund (Fungetur) and the National Support Program for Micro and Small Enterprises (Pronampe), whose government endorsement was recently presented, with the extension of the start of aid payments to the business community.

The deputy also suggested, in a conversation with the FBHA representative, the realization of an agenda with Arthur Lira (PP-AL), president of the Chamber of Deputies to address the priority demands for the sector.
