Security approves lottery funds to strengthen Brazil’s anti-drug fund

The Commission for Public Security and Combating Organized Crime approved a proposal that allocates 2.8% of the annual collection of Brazil’s federal lotteries for the strengthening of the National Anti-Drug Fund (Funad). The rapporteur, deputy Vinicius Carvalho (Republicanos-SP), recommended approval in the form of the opinion prepared by the Science and Technology, Communication, and Informatics Commission, which analyzed the matter in 2017.

Bill 3604/15, by former deputy Elizeu Dionizio (PSDB-MS), was approved. The proposal is being processed in conjunction with Bill 2107/15, by deputy Moses Rodrigues (MDB-CE), rejected by the Security Commission.

The rejected project foresees the broadcasting of anti-drug campaigns on radio and TV. For Vinicius Carvalho, this type of advertising is not effective. This text also allocates lottery funds to Funad (1%, compared to the approved 2.8%).

Processing

The proposals are being processed conclusively and will still be analyzed by the Finance and Taxation commissions; and Constitution and Justice and Citizenship.
