Governor must evaluate the proposal

Brazilian state of Tocantins evaluates creation of its own lottery

The Council of the Partnership and Investment Program of the State of Tocantins (CPPI-TO) held this Wednesday (31) virtually its 4th ordinary meeting to deliberate for the inclusion of three new topics in the Program. One of them was the approval of the qualification of the State Lottery project, which aims to promote studies to evaluate the creation and implementation of state lottery games services, with investments and risks assumed by the private sector.

As the Executive Secretary of the Council Robson Ferreira explained, the Supreme Federal Court (STF) overthrew in September 2020 the Union's monopoly on exploiting the lottery and games service, giving states the right to implement it.

The Councilors decided to approve the qualification of the State Lottery project, which aims to promote studies to evaluate the creation and implementation of state lottery games services, with investments and risks assumed by the private sector.

“This can be an important source of revenue for our state, financing social, cultural and sports actions. Hence the importance of this project for the people of Tocantins,” explained Ferreira.

The proposal approved by the Council now goes to the evaluation and deliberation of Governor Mauro Carlesse.
