The resolutions of the CPPI-TO, approved at its last meeting, were published at the state’s Official Gazette and submitted to Governor Mauro Carlesse, with the proposals for inclusion and qualification of three new projects in the Tocantins Partnership and Investment Program (PPI), among them, the new State Lottery.
After a decision by the Supreme Federal Court (STF) that the exploitation of lotteries is not exclusive to the Union - and that, therefore, the governments of the states and the Federal District can also manage lottery activities, the Government of Tocantins intends to develop studies with the aim of subsidizing the creation of its own lottery.
According to the secretary of Partnerships and Investments of Tocantins, Claudinei Quaresemin, "the Loteria Estadual do Tocantins can represent a significant source of revenue and generate many jobs in our state."
The text published in the Official Gazette informs that the Tocantins PPI decided to “Submit the inclusion and qualification of the State Lottery project to the State Governor's deliberation, within the scope of the Tocantins State Investment Partnership Program, for the structuring phase, composed of the technical, economic, financial and legal modeling, with the purpose of making possible a partnership with the private sector.”
The secretary also clarified that the Government's intention is to create a lottery that pays better prizes to gamblers and that uses the resources generated, in the financing of social actions, such as those to fight hunger and poverty, support for culture, sports, health and education.
After deliberation by Governor Mauro Carlesse, the phase of preliminary studies will be initiated, by companies that express interest, to really show the viability of each project.
The SPI secretary emphasizes that the entire process of the possible partnership is carried out with the participation of the population, in a democratic manner.
