Las Vegas Strip casinos can expand to 80% capacity on May 1

Las Vegas Strip resorts will be allowed to increase their capacity limits to 80% starting May 1 under a new directive issued by the Nevada Gaming Control Board. Under the order signed by Chairman Brin Gibson, casinos throughout the state were allowed to operate within their respective county’s COVID-19 mitigation plans.

Clark County in Southern Nevada, which includes the Las Vegas Valley and Laughlin, is allowing businesses to increase capacity from 50% to 80%. It also reduced the social distancing measures from six feet to three feet.

Clark County will allow businesses and casinos to increase capacity to 100%. It will only be once 60% of the area’s eligible population receives at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. Customers can then avoid social distancing measures.

Governor Steve Sisolak announced that he was turning the COVID-19 vaccine mitigation efforts over to county officials. Still, the Gaming Control Board had oversight of the casino business.

Gaming regulators in Nevada require large sections of the hospitality industry vaccinated. Until then, they will not relieve the 50% state-wide COVID-19 capability limit on the casino floors across the state.

The Gaming Control Board and Nevada Gaming Commission announced through an unusual joint memorandum signed by both Gibson and Commission Chairman John Moran Jr., just before Easter Weekend.

Ever since, several Las Vegas casino operators have said that to inoculated frontline gaming workers, they would provide COVID-19 free vaccinations for employees.

MGM Resorts International, Caesars Entertainment, Las Vegas Sands, Red Rock Resorts, Golden Entertainment, and the Las Vegas Cosmopolitan have launched their own in-house clinics.

The control board stated that casinos will have to continue complying with the basic mitigation measures of the state. Also including the state-wide mask and face cover.
