The Priest announced that the money paid for the campaign will revert to the parishes for which he is responsible. Church’s Council says that “it cannot be worth everything.”

Father Guilherme Peixoto, priest in the parishes of Amorim and Laúndos in Póvoa de Varzim, appears in the Betclic bookmaker's new campaign, led by humorist Fernando Rocha.

At the end of the advertising video, the priest appears, dressed in a cassock, recommending "responsibility", "moderation" and "judge" to all who “walk in these gaming things.”

Asked about his presence on the Betclic video, the priest replied: "There is nothing wrong with this advertisement."

He also referred that he was contacted by an advertising agency that knows his work "as a DJ" and "on social networks."

Father Guilherme Peixoto said that the money he earned from advertising will be "totally divided between the parishes of Laúndos and Amorim."

In a comment he made to the Instagram ad, he wrote: "I hope you like it. If you don't like it, light candles and pray for me. If you like, light candles and pray, too. Someone said: ‘little things of the Lord, the more the better."

Council José Paulo Abreu, Vicar-General of the Braga diocese, declined to comment on the announcement, saying only to Jornal de Notícias that "not all means justify the ends."
