In the midst of a vaccination campaign that has been developing at a slower pace than that desired by the national authorities, Argentine President Alberto Fernández said yesterday that in recent weeks there had been a "social relaxation" that contributed to the increase in cases of coronavirus throughout the territory. In this context, he announced restrictive measures until April 30, which affect circulation, public transport, and tourist trips, among other activities and economic sectors.
The national government will publish in the next few hours a Decree of Necessity and Urgency (DNU) that will establish a nighttime restriction for circulation between midnight and 6:00 am.
The provision establishes that restaurants and bars may remain open until 11:00 p.m., while from midnight to 6:00 a.m. only the so-called essential workers may circulate.
In the case of casinos and bingo halls, the decree establishes that they must remain closed until April 30.
"In the areas of the country considered of medium epidemiological and sanitary risk, it is the authority and responsibility of governors to adopt early measures that reduce circulation to prevent infections," Fernandez said in his announcement.
Once this three-week period has passed, the national authorities are expected to report whether these measures are maintained or revoked, which will be directly related to the number of cases registered until the end of the month.
