IOC announces second eSports tournament with support from the entity

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) continues its approach to electronic sports. The entity announced a partnership with technology company Intel for another eSports competition, the Intel World Open. It will take place online and the regional finals will be played on the eve of the Tokyo Games, between July 11 and 21. Registrations go from May 15 to May 31.

Two games will be used in the competition: Rocket League and Street Fighter V. The total prize pool is US$ 500,000, half of which is for each game. South America is included among the regions participating in the Intel World Open.

Entries can be made on the competition's official website between May 15 and 3. To participate, players must be at least 15 years old (Rocket League) or 16 years old (Street Fighter V). Playoffs can be played on any platform in the Rocket League, but only on PC and PS4 for Street Fighter V.

The first eSports event organized by the IOC is the Olympic Virtual Series, where disputes will take place with sports simulators for baseball, football, cycling, rowing, sailing and motor racing, to be played between May 13 and June 23.
