Senator Irajá admits in his project more than one casino per state in Brazil

In a recent interview with TV Senado, Brazilian Senator Irajá Abreu (PSD/Tocantins), author of Bill 4495/20, talks about his proposal, defines what is an integrated resort and comments on the issue of tourism in Brazil, which could be boosted with the opening of casinos in large hotel complexes. “Brazil receives 6 million foreign tourists. Argentina receives two million more and the Eiffel Tower alone receives 7 million. The objective of the project is to install one resort per state so that we double the number of tourists in the country.”

In justifying his Bill, Senator Irajá states that “the legalization of casino games within integrated resorts, followed by a concession process for exploration, will attract large investors to the Brazilian tourism market, boosting economic activity in all the regions of the country.”

The text provides that the physical space occupied by the casino should correspond to a maximum of 10% of the total area of the integrated resort. Also, the project establishes that "it is up to the Union, exclusively, to grant, regulate and supervise the services, the implantation and the operation of the activities of resorts integrated with casinos."

The Senator’s proposal defines that the resorts integrated with casinos will be authorized through public concessions with a term of 35 years, observing the maximum limit of one resort per state and one in the Federal District.

According to him, “we made the option to present a cautious and conservative project,” on the issue of one casino per state and DF. "If it works, it can be expanded in the medium and long term."
