Ana Biselli Aidar, executive president of Resorts Brasil, said that the country attracts a lot of attention worldwide for its continental characteristics and that the tourism sector generates strong demand for jobs. According to her, “the means of accommodation are a strong catalyst for economic and social development in all regions of the country. Hotels have real estate assets of high-fixed cost, and we need solutions to generate resources for their maintenance and profitability.”
In this sense, Orlando de Souza, director of the Forum of Hotel Operators in Brazil, stated that the country needs to discuss actions and programs to increase the base of travel consumers and “this includes the resumption of casinos as a way to guarantee the recovery of the tourism sector in Brazil. There is a pent-up demand for leisure offers and casinos would have a big impact on that demand,” he defended. "Casinos are inducers to increase the offer of leisure options."
Gilson Machado, Minister of Tourism, and defender of the development of casinos in Brazil, highlighted the strong tourist vocation of the country and the importance of the sector in the economy. Although he did not defend the reopening of casinos at this specific meeting, Gilson Machado made it clear that “we are available for whatever is necessary to build a new path for tourism in Brazil.”
According to him, “tourism in Brazil in the post-pandemic period will be a major driver of the country's development. We are able to have a ratio of GDP in tourism as important as agribusiness,” he said.
On May 17th, the 2nd Cycle of Debates on Tourism in Brazil will take place and it is expected that the casino topic will be resumed, although the corporate events area has been defined as the central theme. It is known that casinos are tools for retaining tourists from events in all jurisdictions with casinos where congresses and fairs are held.
