Suspicious betting alerts in Q1 2021 belonged to South America came from Chile with just 2 tennis incidents. But now, Brazil shows a significant growth, regarding this IBIA report.
The Q2 alerts covered football (16 cases), table tennis (9), tennis (6), eSports (6) and beach volleyball (1). From a geographical perspective, Europe accounted for nearly half (47%) of all alerts reported, followed by Asia and South America with 13% each.
“The 38 cases in Q2 added to the 64 cases in Q1 brings the midyear total to 102 alerts reported by the association. Football has provided the highest number of alerts during that period with 28, followed by tennis (24) and eSports (23). These three sports comprise nearly 75% of all alerts reported in the first half of 2021”, Khalid Ali, CEO of IBIA, said.
Key data for Q2 2021:
A total of 38 suspicious alerts on five different sports and spanning 15 different countries were reported to the relevant authorities for further investigation in Q2 2021.
• This figure may be revised in future depending on the outcome of any ongoing investigations.
The Q2 2021 total is a reduction of 41% when compared to the Q1 total of 64, it is also a similar decrease when compared to the Q2 total of 2020 which saw 65 alerts. This reduction is mainly due to only six tennis alerts being reported. This figure is the lowest in a quarter since IBIA began producing quarterly reports in 2015;
• 18 were reported in Q1 2021 and 26 in Q2 2020.
Of the six tennis alerts, two matches were provided to the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) as intelligence reports as they do not relate to events sanctioned by the main tennis tours.
• However, some players engaged in those events may fall within the scope of that body’s Tennis Anti-Corruption Program (TACP).
Football saw 16 alerts reported in Q2, an increase of 33% on the 12 alerts reported in Q1 2021.
• This is also a significant increase on the four that were reported in Q2 of 2020, albeit that period saw many leagues impacted by the sporting shutdown caused by pandemic.
“IBIA’s expanding membership means that, as set out in the recently published Optimum Betting Market report, it now represents $137bn in global regulated betting turnover per annum making it the largest customer-based integrity platform in the world with nearly 50% of the commercial online market,” Khalid Ali added.
