Doctor Lotto, a Brazilian portal specializing in lottery content, made a survey with the Mega-Sena data in 2021. Between January and March, the biggest lottery in Brazil transferred US$3.75m to the COB and US$2.08m to the CPB.
Caixa has not yet released data for the second quarter of this year, but according to Doctor Lotto estimations, only Mega-Sena managed to allocate US$4.55m to the COB and US$2.52m to the CPB.
The transfer from Caixa to the Brazilian Olympic Committee and to the Paralympic Committee of Brazil was 4.5% lower in 2021 compared to the previous year.
The Agnelo Piva Law allocates to the Brazilian Olympic Committee 1.73% of the result of the gross collection of all lotteries, such as Mega, Quina, Lotofácil, Lotomania, etc. In other words, every contest that the player bets on, 1.73% goes to the development of Brazilian athletes.
In a quick example, if a customer plays R$100 (US$19.4) in the lottery, at least R$1.73 (US$0.33) are destined for Team Brazil.
To give an idea of the importance of the law, the value of lotteries almost entirely finances Olympic sport in Brazil. About 95% of everything the COB receives comes from lotteries. In 2020, this value was approximately R$322 million (US$62.45m).
Almost 0.96% of the amount collected from lotteries goes to the Brazilian Paralympic Committee to assist in the development of sports for people with disabilities.
