In the second week of July, the president of Caixa Econômica Federal Pedro Guimarães published a video on the social networks where he announced that the more than 84 thousand people, who, according to his words, are the “Caixa Family” would have access to vaccination against COVID- 19 in its entirety.
According to Guimarães, this would be an acknowledgment by the Federal Government of the decisive work in the payment of Aid, Family Grants, financing for micro and small businesses as a relevant role played by Caixa for the Brazilian population.
However, the entrepreneurs and employees of the Lottery Network, who, in turn, have been in the “front line” since the beginning of the pandemic carrying out these activities as an essential service to the population, were not mentioned as being covered by this benefit.
Immediately, the president of the Brazilian Federation of Lottery Companies (Febralot) sent an official letter to the Vice President of Retail Network, Paulo Henrique Ângelo de Souza, so that he could intercede with the National Immunization Program (PNI), the Presidency of the Republic and with the Ministry of Health in favor of the Lottery Class.
Among the arguments presented in the letter, Ângelo de Souza highlights "the high exposure to the virus with an average of 600 people per day passing through lottery stores", "the 100% face-to-face nature of the work, without the possibility of doing it home-based” and that “80% of the lottery class is under 30 years of age, therefore not yet covered by vaccination.”
He also stated: “The Lottery Network has about 78 thousand people, including attendants and businessmen, with an estimated 7020 infected and 226 deaths. These data in the environment of a lottery store due to the high exposure to the vírus and due to contact with many people daily, we estimate that it is 20% higher.”
