Caixa Econômica Federal allocates a percentage of the collection of each lottery to social transfers, which include areas of health, culture, sports, among others. The sum of social transfers made between January and June 2021 generated R$ 140.1 million (US$26.7m) to the COB. Last year, the transfer was R$ 126.8 million (US$24.2m) in the same period. The increase was, therefore, 10%.
The data is part of a survey by Docttor Lotto, a platform specialized in lotteries. Brazil currently has two types of lotteries with draws from Monday to Saturday. They are Lotofácil and Quina. Both allocate 1.73% of the proceeds from each competition to the COB.
According to the platform, Lotofácil was responsible for the transfer of R$ 41.2 million (US$7.85m) to the COB between January and June 2021. Quina, in turn, contributed with R$ 31.3 million (US$$5.95m).
“In August of last year, Lotofácil, a lottery that fell in popular taste for being one of the easiest to win, went from three weekly draws to daily contests, which naturally increases the collection and social transfers,” said Bruno Predolin, editor-in-chief of the platform.
